Our foster program is an extension of the EBRP animal control shelter, aimed to save those animals that depend on additional care for their survival and/or eventual adoption: orphaned kittens and puppies, nursing mothers, those animals recovering from major surgery or those that simply need someone to spend some time with them to train or socialize them.
An approved foster home that is willing and equipped to offer such care that is often impossible in the shelter environment. Fostering makes the difference in these animals lives and in the lives of the humans who eventually adopt them.
There are several fostering types
- Weekends- if you decide to foster on the weekends, you can pick up a spay/neutered animal on Saturday and return it on Monday. This allows the animal to leave the monotony and stress of a shelter situation.
- Recovery from surgery- this is usually for a week
- Off-site adoptions- For off-site events, we like to bathe the dog before the event. If you foster you would bring that dog home the night before, groom it and get to know it’s special characteristics.
- Holidays- Holiday fostering is really needed because the shelter is understaffed during this time and the animals don’t always get out of their kennels
- Fostering until the animal gets adopted- f you decide to foster until the animal gets adopted, then their medical and food is supplied by the shelter. You are required to attend 2 off-site adoptions a month to try and help get your animal adopted. You must use the vet at animal control or you will not get reimbursed .
If you are interested in fostering, please look over our foster form and make an appointment to meet with a foster counselor at animal control. Feel free to fill out our online foster application.
