What types of animals need foster care?
Imagine a house full of adorable kittens or puppies! Many of our animals in Foster are babies too young to be placed for adoption. Also, dogs that need heartworm treatment for 4-12 weeks allows the dog to be in a home environment during their treatment. They just need a little quiet time and leash walking. Some of our wonderful strays can be placed in a home while waiting for an adoption spot.

What if I already have pets at home?
Young or ill fosters will need to be housed in a quiet place of their own and therefore should not interact with resident pets for about a week. Many foster parents are already pet owners who are able to integrate successfully their foster into their home after ensuring their own animals are fully vacinnated.

What is the length of foster care?
Depending on their individual needs and your schedule, you may have a foster animal in your home for a few days or more than a month. Our Foster Coordinator will work with you to coordinate the right animal for you.

Are there any expenses for foster parents?
There are no expenses for the foster but they must use the vet at animal control for all medical expenses.  The shelter also provides the food and heartworm medication to all dogs.
